Carl Joseph Hess

Carl Joseph Hess, age 74 of Caledonia, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at his residence. Carl was born February 20th, 1949 in Carthagena, Ohio as the son of the late Leo and Viola (Boeke) Hess. Carl married the love of his life, Eileen  Kremer, October 16th, 1971 in Frenchtown, Ohio and she preceded him April 24th, 2021. Carl was a 1965 graduate of Brunnerdale Seminary High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971 from the University of Dayton. Carl began his engineering career working with Marion Power Shovel, Ridgid Tool and finally HPM. Carl was also a volunteer Fireman and EMT with First Consolidated Fire District while working his full time jobs. Carl was a member of Sacred Hearts Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Cardington, Ohio. Carl loved his family, especially his boys. He referred to them as “their greatest accomplishments”. Anyone who knew Carl, knew he loved to keep an immaculate lawn and home. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working on small engines and his 1949 Dodge Meadowbrook. He was also skilled at welding and working on electrical projects. Carl is survived by his children: Mike (Erin) Hess, Robert (Lesley) Hess, Steve (Cathy) Hess and Gary Hess, seven grandchildren: Kevin, Kristin, Sean, Evan, Bryn, Ryan and Riley, two great grandchildren: Hudson and Henleigh, brothers: Joe (Ann) Hess, John (Rita) Hess, sisters: Edna Hess, Martie (Fred) Hoying and sister-in-law Sharon Hess. Carl is preceded in death by his brother, Les Hess and sister, Rosy Dirksen.  Friends may call at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M Thursday, June 1st, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be on June 2nd at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Hearts’ Catholic Church in Cardington. Interment will follow in Caledonia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carl’s memory to First Consolidated Fire District, P.O. Box 305, Caledonia, Ohio 43314 or to Sacred Hearts’ Church, 4680 US Rt.42, Cardington, Ohio 43315.
