Carmella "Jo" Thompson

Carmella "Erma Josephine" Thompson, known mostly as Jo, age 88, previously of Caledonia, Ohio, passed away quietly in her sleep November 21, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Citra, Florida. Jo was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 9, 1933 to Nick and Filomena Fiscarelli. She was the youngest of four children (Dominic, Mary, Tony) and grew up on the family farm near Fulton, Ohio. She graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1952. Soon afterwards, she met and married James "Jim" Thompson on June 20, 1953. Jo and Jim enjoyed 42 years of marriage, often traveling to various locales to spend time with family before Jim passed on February 2, 1996. She is survived by Rebecca (Randy) Smith of Citra, Florida, Cheryl Caldwell, of Chandler, Arizona, and Darrin Thompson, of Middletown, Ohio. An infant son, Robert, died shortly after birth. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Shawn Smith, Shannon (Luke) Bledsoe, Erin Harvey, Thane (Nancy) Caldwell, Brett Caldwell, Samantha (Aaron) Kugel, and Rachael Thompson, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who were part of her extended family. Always spiritually minded, Jo was a member for many years at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead, Ohio and later for many years at the Berean Baptist Church in Marion, Ohio. In both churches, she served in many ways, but especially in assisting elderly members in attending church services and by organizing and helping prepare funeral meals for members families. Friends may visit from 1:00-2:00 PM December 11th at the funeral home. A Memorial service will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jo's memory to a charity of your choice.
