Francis Redd

Francis Anthony Redd, age 87 of Caledonia, passed away Monday, December 31st, 2012 at home. Francis was born in LaRue on May 18th, 1925 as the son of the late Anthony and Nancy (Jones) Redd. In 1946 he married the love of his life Irene Newel Redd. She preceded him in death on June 22nd, 2009. Francis was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He landed with his unit on Omaha Beach on June 6th, 1944 and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Francis was Landscaper by trade and was known as a "Jack of all trades" who could make anything work. He and Irene traveled extensively throughout the United States. One of his great boast in life was that his first dog was a gift to him from Jim Thorpe. Francis is survived by his sister Bertha (Arvil) Bowmer of Marion. He also leaves behind his good friends Patrick & Erin Kelty of Cardington. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him well. Graveside Services for Francis will be conducted at 10:00 Saturday Morning January 5th, 2013 in Caledonia Cemetery by the Morrow County Veterans. Calling Hours will not be observed. Timson Allen & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia is in charge of arrangements. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion General Hospital.
