Jesse R. Scroggins, Sr. age 77, formerly of New Bloomington, passed away Wednesday morning November 25th, 2015 at the Soldiers & Sailors Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. Jesse was born in Green-up, Kentucky as the son of the late Jesse W. Scroggins and Anna M. Hamm. Jesse was a patriot throughout his life and was proud to have served his country for over sixteen years in the Army, Navy and Air Force. He was stationed in Europe, did two tours of duty in Vietnam and was stationed at many other places throughout the world. At home he worked as a welder using many of the skills he was taught in the service. He was on the NASA Saturn Five Crawler project at Marion Power Shovel and worked for General Castings in Delaware. In his spare time he loved to frequent Flea Markets. He enjoyed trying his luck with a Metal Detector and started a coin collection with his findings, although he concentrated mostly on Kennedy Half Dollars. Jesse and his late wife Clara were very generous people and would help anyone in need. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. Jesse will be missed by his sons, Jesse (Deb) Scroggins of Iberia, Aubrey Scroggins of Louisville, KY and Edward Scroggins of Delaware. His daughters are Kathryn Scoggins and Debra (Junior) Dunn of Marion. There are ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers and sisters, John (Emma) Scroggins and Kenneth (Becky) Scroggins, both of Mt. Gilead, Gene (Anita) Wells of Illinois, Loretta (Walt) Mahler , Joyce (Richard) Bender of Delaware, Shirley (John) McManns, Mary (Jack ) Edington of Marion and his sister-in-law Jane Scroggins. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack, his brother-in-law Henry Combs and his nephew Keith Combs. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted Monday morning November 30th at 10:00 A.M. in Agosta Cemetery in New Bloomington (across from where Jesse lived) by the Marion County Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may call at the Timson Allen & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00. A Time of Sharing will be conducted following calling hours from 5:00 until 5:30. Memorial contributions in Jesse's honor may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
