Jonathan Lee Cass, age 56 of Caledonia, passed away Thursday, July 6th, 2023 at his residence. Jonathan was born November 30th, 1966 in New York City, the son of Ronald and Jean Ann (Showers) Cass. Jean preceded him in death March 3rd, 2013. He is also survived by his step-mother Sharon (Hoffman) Cass. Jonathan was a 1985 graduate of River Valley High School and he studied music at Capital University. Jonathan was a man of strong faith and a devout Christian. He loved his Lord and loved to study the Word. Jonathan was an accomplished musician. He could play a multitude of instruments; saxophone, violin, piano, organ and bassoon to name a few. He was a member of the Marion Concert Band and also played in the Palace Theater’s Pit Orchestra. In the late ‘80’s, he was a member of the Continental Singers and he traveled all over the U.S. with them. Jonathan loved the outdoors; canoeing, fishing, hiking and bicycling. He was also an accomplished equestrian. He loved his horses, especially Chief. Jonathan was also a good cook. He was famous for his spinach pies; they were his brother-in-law Tim’s favorite dish. Family members “claim”, “he couldn’t eat enough of them”. Jonathan did not have children of his own, but he had a special bond with his nieces and nephews and was a beloved Uncle. Jonathan is survived by his sisters, Kara Funk and Mindi (Tim, the one who loves spinach pies) Day, nieces and nephews; Joshua, Hannah (Will), Eli, Lydia, Isaac, Micah, Phoebe, Eden, Josiah and great nephew Owen. Friends may call at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M Friday, July 21st. Services will follow at the funeral home at 5:00 with Jack Kegley officiating. Interment will follow in Caledonia Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jonathan’s memory to the Marion Concert Band, 960 Villandry Drive, Marion, Ohio 43302 or to World Vision International at worldvision.org.
