Lana K. Gandert, age 58 of Edison, Ohio passed away suddenly Sunday July 19th, 2009 while vacationing in Key West, Florida. Lana was born February 24th, 1951, the daughter of Franklin and Marjorie Ault of Caledonia. On February 26th, 1972 she married Charles B. Gandert. He survives her at home. Children; Chris (Brandy) Gandert of Caledonia, Angela (Andrew) Merncer of Marion, Tiffany (David) Littlemeyer of Columbus, Cory Gandert of Joliet, IL and Craig Gandert of Edison. Nine Grandchildren; Brittany and Bridgett Heilman, Katelyn and Luke Mencer, Hunter and Annabelle Gandert, Lila Merncer, Hailey Littlemeyer and Kain Mencer. Three sisters; Karen (Don) Bender of Caledonia, Connie (Gary) Warren of Midland, MI, Bonnie (Dan) Borders of Caledonia and brothers Deo (Vicky) Ault of Caledonia and Lynn (Kim) Ault of Sterling, Ohio. Brothers and sisters-in-law; Lisa & Steve Markley of Caledonia, Jeff & Cheryl Gandert of Caledonia, Rita & Mel Hile of Lexington. She was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law Annabelle and Joseph Gandert. Lana was a member of the class of 69 of River Valley High School. She graduated from Ohio Sate University in 1973 with a bachelors in education. She then returned to her alma mater and has been employed by RV schools as a kindergarten teacher for the past 36 years. Lana served as a mentor to many new teachers and will be sdaly missed by her colleagues and former students. She was actively involved with St. John Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher for more than 20 years and more recently as part of the Glorious Hooks and needles. Lana was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She was a wonderful role model, teacher, advisor and friend. We will greatly miss her loving hands and smiling face; but she will remain forever in our hearts.
A Public funeral services for Lana will be held Saturday morning July 25th at 10:00 in the River Valley High School Auditorium. A private family interment service will follow in Caledonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the River Valley High School Auditorium on Friday between the hours of two and nine. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Marion Public Library or the River Valley Alumni Scholarship Fund. Timson Allen & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia has been entrusted with the services.
