Marvin Forrest Hill, age 91, formerly of Mansfield, passed away peacefully at home August 8th, 2024 in Northport, Alabama, under hospice care and surrounded by family.
He was born September 11, 1932 in Marion, Ohio to Samuel Forrest and Sarah Hill. He graduated from Garfield High school in Akron and the University of Akron, obtaining an accounting degree. He worked in the accounting department at several tire companies including Firestone and Seiberling. In 1964, he became manager of accounting for Mansfield Tire, where he was named Treasurer in 1969. This was followed by an 18 year career at AmeriSteel in Tampa where he served as Corporate Controller.
Marvin enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1960 as a First Lieutenant. He remained in service in the Army Reserves until 1968, at which time he was honorably discharged as a Captain.
Upon Marvin’s retirement in 1998, he and his wife Ardella relocated to Alabama to be close to family.
In his free time he loved fishing, boating, golfing, traveling with Ardella in their RV, camping, restoring old cars, and volunteering at the local cancer hospital. He loved working in his yard and having daily tasks to complete. He was an ardent fan of both OSU and Alabama football and didn’t mind if they were playing each other, as at least one of his teams would win. He shared a love of fishing on the “Popple” in Cadillac, Michigan, which held many fond memories for generations of the Hill family.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Ardella as well as his siblings Arlene Lawless-Brown and Jim (Ann) Hill. He is survived by 6 children of whom he was very proud: Michael (Pat) Hill, Gene “JR” (Kathy) Miller, Elaine (John) Magary, Sherri (Randy) Reed, Tammi (Jeff) Norris, and Cheri (Rich) Long. Surviving siblings include: Paul (Betty) Hill, Sue (Jeff) Tennent, and Sally Buck. Left to carry on his legacy are 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to Tammi and Jeff for their many years of loving support, in particular the care provided in their home when it was needed the most. With the support of friends Kevin and Rhondell Chambers and granddaughter Courtney and her husband Mike, Marvin was able to remain where he wanted to be, at home and surrounded by those who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Manderson Cancer Center, 809 University Blvd. East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
Graveside service for Marvin will be held in Caledonia Cemetery, Sat. October 19th at 10 AM.
