Max Lee Mowry, a beloved member of the Caledonia community, passed away at his residence on March 16, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on August 5, 1956, in Clintwood, Virginia, as the son of the late Jesse and Anna (Large) Mowry. Max’s life was marked by dedication, both to his family and his career. For over 35 years, Max drove trucks for Huntsman and Depot Express as well as where he was needed by others, demonstrating his commitment and work ethic. His father affectionately called it having "Trucker's Disease". He also held a special place in the hearts of many as a longstanding member of the First Consolidated Fire, where he made lasting friendships and impacted those around him with his kindheartedness.
A proud alumnus of River Valley, graduating in the class of 1975, Max continued to be actively involved in his community. He was a cherished member of the Caledonia Memorial Methodist Church where he and Nancy volunteered many hours of their time on church boards and day to day operations. As well as a member of the American Legion Post #401, where he engaged with fellow members and contributed to community well-being as a member of the Caledonia Seniors.
Max’s passions extended beyond his professional life; he enjoyed restoring his old Bronco, a project he finally completed, which brought him immense joy. For over 40 years, he cherished camping trips with his partner, Nancy, particularly at Foxfire Campground. His love for animals was evident, and he often entertained friends and family with tales of camping adventures and the playful antics he shared with Nancy, whom he affectionately called his partner in crime. Max also had a fondness for hunting deer and rabbits during his younger years.
Max is survived by his devoted partner, Nancy Snyder, and his children: daughter Jessica (Ken Fritz) Mowry and son Cory (Hallie) Mowry. He was also a loving brother to Nola (Calvin) Eblin, Karen Baer, and Julie Mowry. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rylee, Henry and soon to make an appearance, Lorraine and his furkids,Buddy, Sebastian and Jr. Max's legacy will continue to thrive through his immediate family and the many friends he made throughout his life.
Max was preceded in death by his son, Evan Mowry, and his beloved spouse, Lorraine Mowry. His memory will be honored by family and friends as they gather to reflect on the life of a man who left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
