Nancy Marie Wetzel

Nancy Marie Wetzel, age 65, of Caledonia, Ohio passed away  September 11, 2022 at Riverside Hospital. Nancy was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, November 29, 1956 as the daughter of Howard and Elsie (Linn) Mitchell. Nancy married Tim Wetzel January 12, 1985 in Morrow County and he survives her at home. Nancy received her associates degree in nursing from Marion Technical College in 1985. She joined the nursing team at Marion General Hospital in February of 1987,  lovingly caring for patients in the ICU and stepdown units. She became a part of the cardiology family as a cath lab nurse in 1990. She was instrumental in the quality program at the hospital, working relentlessly as a site registry manager for the American College of Cardiology. A lifelong learner and advocate for education, Nancy went on to achieve her Bachelor of Science in nursing, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and ultimately attained her Master’s Degree in 2013 from her beloved THE Ohio State University. Achieving her goal as an APRN, Certified Nurse Practitioner, she realized a dream of continuing care as a provider with Dr. Mayank Shah, OhioHealth Heart & Vascular Physicians and OhioHealth Urgent Care. Being a nurse provider and helping others was a privilege to her and she served countless patients with compassion, understanding and humor. Those that worked side by side with Nancy are honored to establish a nursing education scholarship in her name. Nancy loved and was loved by her work family and was a mentor to many. She will be greatly missed by her fellow nurse practitioners and doctors. Nancy loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was the best “Nana”. Nancy was a big OSU football fan and was also a season ticket holder. She enjoyed gardening and was a phenomenal cook and baker. She was an avid canner and was known for her vegetable soup, salsas and jams. At one time she had over 150 tomato plants. Nancy loved attending Broadway shows. She attended numerous shows along side her best friend Robin Showers and daughter-in-laws. Nancy often said she had the best daughter-in-laws and it was as if she hand picked them herself. She and Robin supported the Buckeye cruise for cancer every year which was a cause near and dear to them both.   Nancy was a hard worker and never let her medical conditions slow her down or hinder her from doing what she loved. Nancy will be missed by her children, Heath, Curtis (Tammy), Evan (Blossom), Brad (April), Clayton (Lauren) and Angie (Mohammed), her beloved thirteen grandchildren, brother, John (Carol AKA Carl) Mitchell and sister Judy (Kevin) Eckard. Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Howard Mitchell. Friends may call from 4-7 on Friday, September 16th at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion General Hospital Foundation, 1000 McKinley Park Drive, Marion, Ohio 43302 in memory of Nancy. Funds will be used to support the education of others who share Nancy’s passion for nursing.

She lived her life and served so perfectly to The Nurse’s Prayer:
 
Give me strength and wisdom when others need my touch; a soothing word to speak to them, their hearts yearn for so much. Give me joy and laughter, to lift a weary soul; pour in me compassion to make the broken whole. Give me gentle healing hands, for those placed in my care; a blessing to those who need me, this is a Nurse’s prayer.
