Naomi Mae Cook Baker, 87, passed away on September 22, 2009 at Marion Manor. She was born March 21, 1922, in Waldo, Ohio, to Claude Vernon Cook and Marion Ada Denman. On August 5, 1939, she married Dean Baker, who preceded her in death in August 12, 1997.
She lived all her life in the Marion area a devoted wife and mother. Before being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1958 she participated as a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts and charity work. Dean and Naomi traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada with their travel trailer before buying a home in Florida and spending many winters there. She loved Bingo and making ceramics and crocheted items as gifts for family and friends. She was a member of Crosswoods United Methodist Church. Naomi was know as the "Welcoming Ambassador" at Marion Manor and was past president of the Residents Association. .Naomi is survived by two sons and one daughter: Ronald (Cherril) Baker of Lakeland, Florida, Jerrold Baker of Marion, and Deana (Robert) Detwiler of Edison; and one brother, Doyle Cook of Marion.
Nine grandchildren: Debbie Durrance in Lakeland, Florida, Daniel Baker in Akron, Ohio, Jon Simmons in Kenton, Theresa (Kevin) Trout in Wake Forest, NC, Craig Baker in Columbus, Christopher (Sarah) Baker in Marion, and Eric (Gayle) Detwiler in Wake Forest, NC, Jeff (Lisa) Detwiler of Marion, and Tracey Detwiler of Williamsburg, Virginia. Great-grandchildren number 16: Mira, Angie, David, Emily, Amanda, Josh, Sam, Matthew, Andrew, Katherine, Mason, Nathan, Emily, Gabriel, Broc, Ashley. Great-great grandchildren number 10: Brandon, Drake, Hyala, Nicholas, Loren, Alana, Conner, Brett, Chase, Aven Funeral Services for Naomi will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday March 26th, 2009 at the Timson Allen & Melroy Funeral Home in Caledonia with Pastor Sarah Schaaf officating. Interment will follow in Caledonia Cemetery. The family will receive frinds on Friday evening from 6:00 - 9:00. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of the Marion Manor Activity Fund.
