Shirley Ann Marshall, age 85, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 13 2024, at the James Cancer Hospital. Born on October 18, 1938, in Patterson, Ohio as the daughter of the late William and Crystal (McKee) Smithson. Shirley was a beacon of love and warmth for all who knew her.
For over 40 years, Shirley dedicated her career to River Valley Schools as a devoted librarian. Her passion for literature and education inspired many, and her gentle guidance helped countless individuals cultivate their love for reading. A proud graduate of the Forest High School class of '56, her thirst for knowledge never waned, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the written word.
Above all, Shirley was a family woman. She loved her family deeply, particularly her grandchildren—her pride and joy. Her legacy lives on through her children: Jim (Lisa) Marshall, Jalene (Phil) Kin, Troy (Karen) Marshall, Ty (Traci) Marshall, and Shanna (Rob) Keene, along with her beloved grandchildren—Heather, Joe, Kortney, Taylor, Jimmy, Matthew, Derek, Kelby, Whitney, Kara, Katy, and Kyler and her 21 great grandchildren. Each one held a special place in her heart and will forever remember her kindness, laughter, and unwavering support.
Shirley's personality shone brightly in every aspect of her life. She treasured her friendships and found immense joy in her social activities, often gathered around tables filled with laughter as they played BINGO, Bunko, and Euchre with her gal pals. The memories made during these gatherings brought her great delight. Additionally, Shirley relished camping at Jalene’s pond and looked forward to her Saturday morning shopping trips with her daughters, where countless adventures and heartfelt conversations were shared.
Her love for gardening spoke volumes of her nurturing spirit. She took great pleasure in planting flowers and transplanting flowers on her property, transforming her yard into a blossoming haven that reflected her vibrant personality.
While we celebrate Shirley's rich and fulfilling life, we also take a moment to remember those who preceded her in death, her beloved husband of 46 years, Jimmy Marshall, who passed away December 15, 2004 and her sister, Mary Ellcesser.
A visitation for Shirley will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Timson & Melroy Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 P.M. with Pastor Terry Burkhardt officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Caledonia Memorial Methodist Church. Interment in Caledonia Cemetery.
Shirley Ann Marshall’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. She will be missed deeply and remembered fondly. May her spirit continue to inspire those she touched along the way.
