Since 1924 this funeral service has served families from Marion, Crawford and Morrow Counties with the kind of small town dignity that makes the people who come through our door feel as though they have come to the home of a friend and not just into another business establishment.
It is our pledge to help anyone in their time of need regardless of their race, creed, color or financial situation.
The Importance of the Funeral Ceremony and It’s Effect on Those Who Are Grieving
The funeral ceremony is important in that it provides a meaningful memorialization of the deceased. Whether it is a traditional burial or cremation, the focus should always be on providing the family with a lasting memory and final tribute. The funeral ceremony should be a reflection of the deceased’s life lived and a celebration of their accomplishments and achievements. The funeral ceremony also helps the family work through their grief by bringing friends and loved ones together to support each other at a difficult time. It also allows friends and family the opportunity to share fond memories and moments of times past with the deceased. By sharing stories and past experiences with the family of the deceased, the service can be a celebration of a life lived instead of a life lost. The funeral ceremony itself is important because it aids in the finality of the death and provides closure for those who are left behind to grieve. The viewing alone can provide closure and finalize the death for those who are still in denial or disbelief. The funeral ceremony also allows the opportunity for friends and family to say a final goodbye to their loved one. Many use this time to make amends to the deceased for things that were said or done in the past. A way of taking care of “unfinished business” with the deceased. It may be done by leaving a letter in the casket with the deceased or by spending time talking to them alone. The funeral ceremony can help to heal and mend emotional wounds.
We believe that the biggest challenge that today’s funeral director’s face is showing the value and importance of the funeral ceremony to future consumers. For many families the funeral ceremony used to be a tradition of sorts. They always used the same local funeral home, had a viewing and a committal service. There was never any discussion on whether or not to have a ceremony. They viewed it as something that should be done and it was important to them. Today’s younger consumers with their busy lifestyles see no value or importance in the funeral ceremony. It’s just something that costs money and takes away from their valuable time. We as funeral directors make sure that every service and ceremony that we arrange is unique, memorable and personal. No “cookie cutter” services. We need to show that having a funeral ceremony is important and that there is value in having it. We believe that the funeral ceremony is a way to honor our dead and to keep their memory alive in our hearts. It’s a way of showing how much we care and to celebrate their life with others.
